Hello Friend!
DIY Kerfed L Ported Stained Front Baffle Subwoofer Box
YouTube Video
It is a very good day to apply most common techniques in building car subwoofer enclosure. And the 3 most common techniques are: Carpeting the side panels, staining front baffle and kerfing the port. Also a 4th technique is added in the mix and that is how to seamlessly tuck the carpet in the notches of the box. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
00:00 - Shopping for some good quality plywood at Wilcon home depot.
01:00 - For a FREE subwoofer box schematic. Go to this link - https://www.tinkercad.com/things/abo1NZD9YW4
01:40 - The table saw is truly the hardest working horse in the shop.
02:00 - Wood glue can be used to caulk the box air tight. No need to get silicone and such.
02:20 - How to bend plywood by kerfing. Soak it with water and bend.
02:35 - Use lots of clamps in holding it to place a perfect 90 degree bend. An all purpose adhesive can be used to fill the plywood kerf gaps and cuts to strengthen it super strong.
03:15 - This is a quick technique in measuring a speaker's mounting hole diameter: 2 pieces L square can measure the diameter accurately.
03:50 - Properly sand the kerfed front baffle with 120 and 240 grit sanding paper. After that, stain away!
04:05 - Apply 1 coat of polyurethane on the baffle after stain has dried to give it a shiny and smooth look and feel.
04:35 - The 4th technique is applied here: Cut about 1/8 of an inch deep groove. This will be used to tuck the carpet seem for a more seamless look and feel.
05:35 - Glue all panels together except the top. Lots of clamps needed here.
05:50 - 2 pieces Category 7 CS12-250 subwoofers unboxing time!
07:00 - Subwoofer box carpeting time!
08:30 - All done. Final product showcase time!
09:00 - Expert box builders should verify the final and actual subwoofer system tuning and impedance. I use Dayton Audio DATS v3 in testing almost everything audio-electronics.
That's it. I hope you all enjoy our little show for today and stick around for the subwoofer bass test video next week. Thank you for watching. Have a nice weekend everyone!
